Sophie's Place Restaurant Review: Artisanal beers and a Mediterranean-skewing menu are the focus of this Redondo Beach gastropub. The bar is the centerpiece of the dimly lit dining room, with a large chalkboard spanning the wall behind that lists drink options. Although a few tables are available, the more visually stimulating seating can be found on the charming patio, which affords diners a view of Riviera Village. Beer-battered cauliflower makes a welcoming start, crispy on the outside with a soft, textured interior, alongside the hummus trio with flavors like black bean and edamame. The mango salad with grilled prawns, almonds, red grapes, spinach and honey-lime vinaigrette is a refreshing, lighter alternative to the beef and mushroom burger. The "S-lamb" is a well-executed, gyro-style sandwich with the requisite red onion, feta cheese, tzatziki and tomato, and large plates range from filet mignon to grilled chicken skewers. A selection of more than 50 brews is available, with a limited choice of wines by the glass. For dessert, stick with the homemade apple pie topped with caramel ice cream. Taco Tuesday offers good specials like $3 red snapper, salmon, steak or short rib tacos. |
