Sotohiro Kosugi is legendary among the chopstick crowd. His little dining room in a quirky Buckhead strip mall is usually packed to the rafters, despite its remarkable lack of ambience. The attraction here is clearly the works of art dispatched from the sushi bar. There are a few live selections on the menu---any inhabitants of a tank of live flounder (occasionally available) can find their way onto your plate. However most items are simply the freshest catch around and, in the hands of Soto, are transformed into flesh of the gods. Tempura and other traditional Japanese fare is stellar as well. Pay close attention to the specials, likely the most exotic fresh concoction ever to cross your lips. Imagine a pâté of monkfish liver (in winter only as a special), or the perfect union of scallops and mango. Service is snail-like, so be prepared to wait. To see the action close-up, sit at the bar and watch Soto and his crew, in traditional garb, slice and arrange with the precision of surgeons. The extensive cold country premium saké list offers the beverage of choice with this stellar fare.
