: This is where the trendy urbanites come to dine. It’s a successful chain restaurant with several branches in Beijing and Shanghai. The Szechuan menu is served in minimalist (for China) surroundings. Chill-out music plays over the speakers, the staff is attentive---perhaps overly attentive---fresh lilies are placed on each table and the floor is lit from below with glowing tiles. The signature dish, fried sliced beef, is seared in hot oil on stones at the table. It’s quite a sight, as is the chef’s salad that is chopped up in front of diners. We also recommend the kung pao chicken, the little bowls of fresh and chewy dan dan mian (sesame-flavored noodles) and wonton (dumplings), and the king prawns. |
