THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED South Water Kitchen Restaurant Review

: There’s a lot to like about the menu at this all-American restaurant on the south branch of the Chicago River. Skewing toward comfort food, you’ll find everything from deviled eggs to beer-braised pork belly with fennel purée, and herb chicken with whipped potatoes, gravy and fresh vegetables. More often than not, the dishes deliver exactly what you’d expect. At the same time, the tavern-like space --- with its dark wood and old-timey pictures --- is simply a pleasant place to be, especially since service is efficient and knowledgeable. There’s a short wine list that works with the menu, along with tempting desserts, like red velvet cake. The lunch menu largely mirrors dinner offerings with the addition of some lighter fare. Needless to say, given its location, this is a good place to keep in mind when going to the theater.
