THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Southside Cafe Restaurant Review:
New York City is inundated with Italian-American eateries, old-school sanctuaries of the red sauce. Southside Café, in many ways, is no different: spaghetti and meatballs is on the menu, there’s a lingering scent of garlic throughout the front room, and everything seems to be cooked in white wine. But there’s one main difference here: the food is memorable and not loaded up with cheese like one might expect to find when glancing at the menu. That goes for the bruschetta---four baguette slices topped with a savory combination of tomatoes, scallions and garlic---to the house dish, rigatoni Southside, a tomato and basil sauce with spicy sausage, to the prosciutto-stuffed chicken and veal dishes.
