Maybeck’s Restaurant Review:

The brooding palette of dark woods, plantation blinds and a molded tin ceiling is curiously reminiscent of a Midwestern steakhouse. Patrons lift delicate upmarket renditions of Negroni and boulevardier cocktails from the sprawling copper bar on their way to the tartan plaid banquettes and dressed four tops of the dining room. Many dishes from the simple menu of very well-executed Italian standards are marked by an alluring smokiness. Moist fenneled pork shoulder sausage with salsa verde and a robust dish of radiatori with savory pork sugo and fermented chili beckon us back. Rigatoni bathed in creamy vodka sauce is a singular pleasure. The hint of charcoal and deft seasoning of the dry-aged Prime New York steak rendered the accompanying bordelaise unnecessary. We found the silky maple semifreddo dusted with allspice a refreshing finish. Fourteen mostly Italian and French wines by the glass and 18 beers round out the menu.
