THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED St Alban Restaurant Review:
Chris Corbin and Jeremy King are two of London's most famous names (after Gordon Ramsay that is), whose restaurants included The Ivy, Le Caprice and J. Sheekey, and who opened The Wolseley to much success. They specialise in creating the kind of exclusive, but by no means unwelcoming-to-the-ordinary-punter kind of restaurant where everyone feels like the celeb they are probably sitting next to. No mean feat in such a self-consciously trendy city as London. The restaurant is in a low-ceilinged, large room feeling a little business-like, though the brightly coloured banquettes do their best to banish that as does the art of Michael Craig-Martin and Damien Hirst. The menu ranges far and wide around the Mediterranean, from sautéed chorizo and butter beans with piquillo peppers to wood-baked sardines for starters, from pizzas to paellas, rabbit leg to calf’s liver, all cooked with verve and skill. There’s a good tapas menu in the bar for those who want to snack. Service is as professional as anywhere in London; the wine list is a delight and well priced. Pre- and post-theatre and Sat. lunch 2 courses £16.50, 3 courses £20.75.
