Steamboat House Restaurant Review:
This sprawling steakhouse --- named for Sam Houston’s last residence --- features a statue of the Texas president as well as fine art paintings and memorabilia from Texas’ early days. Besides its allure as a Texas history museum that even gives school tours, Steamboat House has a reputation as a steakhouse serving cuts like The Senator Houston, a slab of New York strip weighing in at 16 ounces. Lighter choices include grilled seafood and a vegetarian chef’s special of pasta and sautéed vegetables. A highlight is the dessert tray, which includes the Texas Cannonball, vanilla ice cream rolled in crushed Oreo cookies. A kids’ menu has standards like chicken fingers and mac ‘n’ cheese.
