A welcome addition to the designer-oriented Beverly-La Brea shopping district, Sugarplum brings a little spice to a block dominated by pizza and coffee chains. This European patisserie, founded by former Spago pastry chef Anna Delorefice, is a cut above and creates everything on premises from the finest ingredients the creative staff can source. Breakfast pastries are the specialty; we love the traditional croissants, cinnamon twists and cherry and chocolate-chip scones. Our four-legged friends are mad for the all-natural doggie pastries as well. At lunch there is a simple menu of panini with a choice of just-baked white or whole-wheat bread. Take home a box of cookies or granola for another day. The shop also creates specialty cakes and tarts to go, with flavors including, of course, plum.
