Sushi Kappo Tamura Restaurant Review:

About the décor: Light wood, sharp corners and crisp colors give this Eastlake sushi spot exactly the elegant, modern Japanese feeling expressed in chef Taichi Kitamura’s cooking.

Likes: Sushi bar service, saké list.
Dislikes: Unexciting vegetable dishes, unremarkable rolls.

Food & Drinks: From the dozen tables, that cooking shows best in the classic dishes of his home country: a shrimp chawanmushi (custard), light and crisp tempura and chicken karaage. But at the low sushi bar, the restaurant truly comes into its own, with Kitamura and his deputies bringing in the freshest local, sustainable seafood and preparing it with an eye toward Japanese tradition. The desserts do the reverse, bringing flavors like yuzu and matcha into panna cotta and ice cream. The extensive saké list comes with informative notes to help even novices make a decision, and is matched by a globally informed wine selection as well as a spirits list with an impressive collection of shochu and Japanese whiskey.
