Tam O'Shanter, Los Angeles, CA

Tam O'Shanter Restaurant Review:

This enduring L.A. mainstay --- it is part of the Lawry’s Restaurants family --- has been around since 1922 and started out as a roadside homemade potato chip stand before evolving into a full-service restaurant with a Scottish theme. Once a Disney Studios hangout, the place has anchored this Los Feliz neighborhood through good times and bad. You’re still guaranteed the chance to enjoy comforting old favorites in an authentic Scottish pub atmosphere. House specialties include the prime rib with creamed corn or spinach. The toad-in-the-hole remains a favorite, with sliced filet mignon served on Yorkshire pudding with mushroom caps and a Burgundy sauce. An ale-and-sandwich bar allows for quick stops at the Tam. For dessert, consider classics like English trifle or sticky toffee pudding. There is a very serviceable wine list, plenty of British beers and single malt Scotches. And where else can you hear bagpipes on both St Patrick's Day and Robert Burn's birthday?
