: This old-school fish market/taqueria has been satisfying hearty eaters for decades. And while it does smell a little oceanic when you walk past the cases of iced fish, the upstairs is a pleasant place to relax with a big margarita while waiting for the whole fish you’ve selected for dinner. Grilled or fried, try the snapper or red fish topped with mojo, in butter with garlic; a la ranchera, with tomato, onion, bell pepper and hot peppers; or a la diabla, the spiciest of the three. The traditional Tex-Mex dishes are only mediocre --- the real draw is the fresh Gulf Coast fish and oysters. Décor is nothing fancy, but the drinks are strong and there's also a display case of fresh fish available for purchase in the event that you'd prefer to prepare your catch at home. |
