The colorful Spanish tile façade hints at the authenticity inside this zesty re-creation of a tapas bar in Madrid. A clay pot of shrimp bubbling merrily in garlic oil perfumes the air. It’s quickly followed by a lusty blood sausage grilled to almost grainy texture. For unfettered feeding on the small plates of Spain, hot and cold, from cod croquettes to baby eels, Taperia Madrid can set your castanets clicking. No frills here. Just picnic tables and benches, a long and busy bar with sturdy teak stools and a ceiling and floor of old barn siding. The place is fun, loud and friendly and you may find yourself sharing tapas with complete strangers sitting next to you. You’ll see pitchers of sangría on most tables, but you can choose from a number of other typical Spanish wines and beers as well.
