THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Taqueros Restaurant Review:
Finding food that's Mex-minus-the-Tex is as difficult in New Orleans as it is in most American cities. Taqueros, which is located in a classy first floor cafeteria in a renovated Garden District building, comes closest to the real thing in this town. The excellent tacos de mariscos, tacos al pastor and tacos de conchinita pibil---all made with double-ply soft corn tortillas---cost just $2.50 apiece. Hardier appetites and wallets might opt for more exciting specialties and sauced dishes, such as the enchiladas with luxuriant mole sauce, or the made-to-order guacamole. Even vegetarians have a choice here, from the grilled vegetables served with rice and beans to sautéed cactus and poblano chiles. The space is large and informal, perfect for kicking back with a pitcher of margaritas and friends. Upstairs is Coyoacan, a fine dining Mexican restaurant.
