Tava Indian Bistro Restaurant Review

: A tava is a large, flat, steel pan used in India for cooking street food. Two of them were imported from India for this operation, and they stand prominently behind glass as the centerpiece of the demonstration kitchen. Sharing ownership with a halal meat market also in Patel Plaza, Tava serves halal meat. Start with potato patties topped with a curry of dried white peas (ragda), a staple of street fare in Mumbai. There are several vegetarian entrées, many based on paneer (cheese). We also like the stuffed eggplant. Lamb in a spicy curry sauce and shrimp katakat with aromatic vegetables are hits. Heat levels can be adjusted to suit your personal taste. Several sweet selections may act as dessert. Try the mango kulfi, a sort of ice cream. Nimboo pani made from lemon juice subtly flavored with cumin is most refreshing with the dishes. No alcohol, so far. So we happily sip a masala chai after dinner.
