Just outside of Boston, over the bridge in the small community of Charlestown, Tavern on the Water offers one of the best views of the city. Head upstairs to the main dining room and order some fresh oysters on the half shell, an ahi napoleon or spicy blackened sea scallops to start. The New England clam chowder is thick, loaded with clams and potatoes and served piping hot with a side of oyster crackers. Pair it with a microbrew or a make-your-own Bloody Mary (available during the weekend brunches) along with creamy lobster mac ‘n' cheese, citrus soy-glazed salmon or a lobster and shrimp sauté with jasmine rice. On the roof deck, you can eat lighter fare with an Old Ironside chicken sandwich with pesto and cheddar, or a fish sandwich with homemade scallion-leek tartar sauce. For dessert? We suggest the chocolate chip cookie sliders with vanilla bean ice cream.
