Since 1977, what began as a simple falafel stand has evolved into a restaurant and piano bar offering Middle Eastern and Israeli specialties, as well as other dishes from around the world. Hummus is available topped either with sautéed mushrooms and garlic or mushrooms, hard-boiled egg, pine nuts and moist falafel. There are sandwiches and wraps, but more interesting are the ground beef kebabs with onions and zucchini; charbroiled skirt steak marinated in a blend of ginger, teriyaki and soy sauce; or lamb shank baked in tomato-red wine sauce with bay leaves. Believe it or not, you can also get Cajun-style orange roughy and Chinese cashew chicken here. For dessert, save room for baklava or apple strudel. The casual, airy establishment transforms into a lively supper club after dark, with live Middle Eastern and other types of international music.
