: Emeryville has been boldly revitalized, but the sturdy old Townhouse has been here (on and off) all along. Hearty steaks, Reuben sandwiches, and cornmeal-fried calamari evoke the early days of this historic hangout, which first opened in 1926 and thrived through the Prohibition. But a multicultural menu ranging from meatless pot stickers to Thai mango-steak salad to coconutty barbecued baby-back ribs suits modern Bay Area tastes. Happy hours are popular, and well-heeled post-cinema crowds tuck into pasta, seafood, burgers and sliders as well as more adventurous offerings such as sweet potato fries with chipotle aïoli. The wine list is good but offers few surprises. Lemon crème brûlée and coconut tres leches cake are tempting desserts. |
