The Tree House Tavern & Bistro Restaurant Review:
The Tree House Tavern & Bistro, located in and around a still-operating flower shop that occupies an 1860s farmhouse, has character and charm galore. You can almost feel your blood pressure drop as you step inside and away from the noise and congestion of the nearby Route 2 retail corridor. Come early to stroll the gardens, or settle into a cozy chair near the fireplace or the library for breakfast, lunch, high tea or dinner. A big barn attached to the farmhouse has dining tables as well as a beer bar occupying one wall. Fresh-brewed, loose-leaf tea is offered with moderately dense scones with clotted cream and preserves. At breakfast, you can order a sparkling Bellini to complement lobster crêpes (also available at lunch) or, perhaps, authentic Rhode Island jonnycakes topped with real maple syrup (by request). Mac ‘n’ cheese is a comfort-food lover’s delight for dinner, served alongside your choice from among the dozens of draft and bottled craft beers. Can’t decide between the Allagash Black and the Southern Tier Mokah? Order a flight of five paired “taps and tapas.”
