Turks & Frogs Restaurant Review:
This West Village wine bar---the sister to TriBeCa’s Turks & Frogs---serves up more beverages than edibles. That’s not to say that the food, including lots of Turkish treats, isn’t worth a nibble. It is. Food offerings include hummus with toasted pita strips, a smoky eggplant salad, cheese plates, and mixed Turkish olives. If you’re still hungry, try the various “tosts,” or sandwiches, including the salami or ambiguous sounding "Atom" tost. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming: the first room boasts a vintage-chic bar area while the back offers couches, bookshelves filled with leather-bound classics, and black and white maps of Istanbul that will make you want to start planning your next trip. Both are decorated with antique mirrors and lots of candles, and are perfect for long conversations with friends or romantic tête-à-têtes. The lengthy wine list is helpfully broken down into categories like “medium to full bodied, fruity and oak-free,” and “full bodied, rich flavored, bone dry.”
