THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Umo Restaurant Review:

The "h" in humo (Spanish for "smoked") is silent, so the owners of this neighborhood cantina dropped it from the name. But the full flavor of the smoked meats cramming their tacos comes through loud and clear. A stepbrother of 80/20 Burger Bar in nearby Ghent, Umo exhibits the same conscientious sourcing on everything from smoked mole wings and beef and bean menudo to those magnetic tacos of pork al pastor with citrus cabbage or blackened fish. All can be morphed into burritos, and veggie varieties include roasted crimini mushrooms with black beans and cilantro salsa. Don’t skip the house-made churros come dessert. Hip and casual, Umo feels like a grounded food truck. But it’s full service, and groups of pals, couples and families look at home seated at bright, alfresco communal picnic tables (the small interior is darker with a tavern mien), many of them having strolled over from the Riverview and Colonial Place neighborhoods. It’s a good thing, as the tonics and hops (a smart smattering of sherry, wine and local and far-flung beers with a special shout out for the tequila-tinged cocktails) are worth doubling down on.
