Located just off busy McKinney Avenue is a sleek, modern dining room with an equally contemporary Mexican menu. Owner Markus Pineyro incorporates authentic south-of-the-border tastes that forgo the city's over-saturated Tex-Mex influence in favor of flavors reminiscent of a true taqueria. The arrachera steak al carbon taco (grilled adobo marinated steak laced with red salsa) and the pollo con mole (chicken, homemade mole sauce, crema, pickled red onions, sesame seeds and queso fresco) are both built upon fresh corn tortillas. A salsa trio and warm strips of lightly dusted tortilla chips nearly make a meal. Avocado-lime crema stands above the suite of salsas with its silky consistency and fine balance of avocado and lime. A variety of Mexican beers, flavorful margaritas like the popular Hibiscus, mojitos and the Texas Iced Tea quench the thirst, while churros with dulce de leche ice cream and chocolate sauce satisfy the sweet tooth.
