THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Urban Union Restaurant Review:

Michael Shrader left his post at showy Epic, and it was anyone’s guess what he would concoct. As it turns out, the results couldn’t be more pleasing. The narrow space, anchored by a wood-hearth oven, is warm and unpretentious. Grabbing a stool at the open kitchen, you’re in the heart of the action, and it’s a welcoming place to be --- especially on a chilly day. Whatever the weather, unconvoluted, seasonal dishes shine. Leeks appear melty in a creamy, hollandaise-like sauce, while farro and arugula salad with mint, lemon and Reggiano shavings masters the ideal chew. The schnitzel? It’s straightforward and straight-up good, so it’s impossible to complain. There’s a serious seafood component going on, too, from posh seafood towers to a notable daily fish preparation. Meanwhile, desserts from pastry chef Mitsu Nozaki are every bit the treat, with lush (yet surprisingly light) sticky toffee pudding haunting our dreams. The large and savvy wine list, with options by the glass and tap, continues the approachable, come-hang-out theme.
