URBN Restaurant Review:
Owner Jon Mangini has successfully expanded his pizza empire since 2006 with outposts of URBN and flagship BASIC across San Diego. The popular pizzeria has sidewalk counter seating, big indoor tables and casual walk-up service. Start with an URBN salad with field greens and pear, or try the chopped version loaded with radicchio, salami, tomato, onion, chickpea and pepperoncini. Square-shaped, thin-crusted craft pies include the polpetta con provolone, red sauce with meatballs, ricotta and basil; and Gouda Garlic Alfredo with chicken, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes. Calzones stuffed with spinach, artichokes, olives, mushrooms and mozzarella are available, too. Expect plenty of local craft beers on tap to complement the hand-tossed pies.
