Just a stone's throw from ArcLight Hollywood, Stella Barra Pizzeria is a great option for a meal before or after a movie. Like the original location in Santa Monica, this restaurant features an open kitchen. Chef Jeff Mahin's market-driven, Cal-Italian menu features big salads, sandwiches (lunch only) and pizzas. It took Mahin more than 30 trials to perfect the recipe for his pizza dough, which creates a crust that is thin in the middle, thick and crunchy on the outside. Considering it involves a three-day process, the pies are very reasonably priced, from $14.95 for the margherita to $17.95 for the prosciutto and farm egg pizza. The white pizza (no tomato) with crispy purple kale, pecorino and roasted garlic is a must. You can always pick some "add-ons" such as wild arugula if you want to personalize your pizza. Cocktails and a Cal-Italian wine list are available. Unique to this location is weekday breakfast and a weekend brunch buffet. Also located at 2000 Main St., Santa Monica, 310-396-9250.
