THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Village Prime Restaurant Review:

The Village’s only steakhouse, Village Prime attempts to bring Uptown to Downtown. And it largely succeeds in ambience with leather banquettes and reclined dark wood wall paneling. The menu is nothing new, and that’s the point. Start off with breaded baked clams, some oysters from the raw bar or a tuna tartare, in which you will appreciate the creativity, before moving on to the main event. Steak comes in the form of a rib-eye, filet mignon and bone-in New York strip. But serious carnivores should opt for the classic porterhouse (for two or four diners). The cut is massive and comes slightly charred on the top and bottom. Sides include the usual creamed spinach (very good), lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, and variations on the theme of potatoes. For dessert, the crème brûlée is nicely presented in a long and thin white porcelain dish, decorated by a caramel sculpture. The wine list skews red, and there’s a notable selection of Scotch, a fine way to finish any steak dinner. Note that lunch specials start at just $14 for two courses and that the weekend brunch prix-fixe for $30 with unlimited Champagne and complimentary coffee and tea is a great deal. If the restaurant is rather stylish, it lacks ambience.
