The Village Pub Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Since 2001, “The Pub” has ranked among the Peninsula’s best restaurants. The clubby atmosphere of polished dark wood and red velvet attracts ladies-who-lunch and the Sand Hill venture crowd by day, and date-night couples and corporate closers by night.
Food & Drinks: The seasonal, contemporary American cuisine has classic French roots. Duck confit is an indulgent lunch staple. Sautéed Monterey abalone in cauliflower mousseline with soft poached egg and truffle cream delivers a trio of earthy flavors rich with the white truffle of the season. (Black and white truffle supplements can bring added luxury to many dishes.) Sweetbreads with poached lobster is a creative and luxuriant take on surf ‘n’ turf. Wine service is attentive and informed, and the world-class international list offers an extensive selection of half-bottles, special format sizes and a spectrum of hard to find gems, including nearly 40 choices from Domaine de la Romanée Conti.
