THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Vini e Fritti Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant & décor: Vini e Fritti, Danny Meyer’s casual, buzzy wine bar at The Redbury New York hotel, is a temple to the joys of fried food. Under the high ceilings, there are tall marble tables and a wooden communal table, but the heart of the restaurant is the long 15-seat marble bar.

Likes: Fritto misto; fried artichokes; affordable Champagne by the glass; cocktails.
Dislikes: The spot gets very loud and crowded.

Food & Drinks: Chef Joe Tarasco’s menu is inspired by Rome. It’s organized into two sections, “Fritti” (fried snacks) and “Non-Fritti.” It’s the fried items that really shine: tender baby artichokes with a squeeze of lemon; tempura-battered and fried delicate squash; crispy potato pancakes; and best of all, fritto misto with head-on shrimp and buttery calamari. These items are crunchy, light and never greasy. An anchovy and mozzarella sandwich is funky and satisfying, but pork ribs drenched in Calabrian chile-honey are sweet and supple from a night in the sous vide machine. A spritz made with thyme-infused Saler's, Punt e Mes, ginger and an olive garnish is a refreshing foil to all the fried food. Plenty of reasonably priced Champagnes by the glass are on offer, as is a selection of mostly Italian wines. For dessert, there’s a classic tartufo and fried dough that arrives in a cloud of powdered sugar.
