THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Walzwerk Restaurant Review:

On a cool, crisp night in San Francisco (which could be in January or July), chilly diners find their way down the desolate block of South Van Ness that leads to Walzwerk. The service is warm and dishes are the homey, hearty variety created from a combination of starch and meat. Bratwurst, wienerschnitzel and sauerkraut don't budge from their German roots thanks to the careful watch of native German owner Christiane Schmidt. This is not German-inspired California cuisine---this is the real deal. A small, well-chosen selection of beers pairs up just right. Diners in a post-dinner haze might let their eyes wander over the pictures of the German countryside on the wall and forget they are in the Mission District. Further into the Mission, the owner's more casual eatery, Schmidt's, is a dining option as well.
