When the sign out front says Japanese food and French desserts, how can one not be intrigued? Wasabi 201 is seemingly another home-style Japanese restaurant, yet its extensive menu proves surprising. More than 40 special sushi rolls of maki and temaki can adequately make up an entire meal or act as great appetizers. There are the standards in udon, curry and yakimono. Heavenly bowls of sukiyaki may be included as part of combination bento boxes. The surprise comes with the fact that chef Yong S. Kim trained in a French kitchen and has included perfectly prepared soufflés, crème brûlée and a fully plated chocolate trio on the dessert menu. The setting is slightly sterile with black booths and chairs and white walls, but the service is attentive and the food makes up for the lack of ambience.
