Waterfalls Restaurant Review:
Located directly across from John Wayne Airport, inside the Atrium Hotel, Waterfalls maintains an American and European theme with mostly Mediterranean influences. Chef Kim Kramer drives a globally inspired menu of soups, salads, pastas and mains. For lunch, there’s a good entrée salad selection, lots of plump and crunchy sandwiches and several upscale pasta dishes. The halibut entrée is a study in healthy Mediterranean flavors, with grilled vegetables, oven-roasted tomatoes, olive oil, lemon juice and a tarragon infusion. Or, try the blackened pork chop with a refreshing mango-papaya relish. When the season and weather are right, look for tapas-style plates and various cocktails poolside at the hotel’s iLum Lounge, a modern spot where the cool cats can hang out, complete with private outdoor cabanas outfitted in black-and-white leather. When the nights get too cold, the party and small plates retreat indoors to the sleek Sunset Lounge. At breakfast, Waterfalls has Euro-American dishes, along with a traditional Japanese buffet.
