When chef Andy Ricker opened a version of his popular Portland, Oregon, Thai destination Pok Pok NY in Brooklyn in 2012, it was a huge hit from day one. A year later, he debuted this lounge and restaurant a block away, which largely serves as a place to wait for your Pok Pok table. But Whisky Soda Lounge is more than just a mere stop for a culinary layover. It offers aahaan kap klaem, the dishes that are meant specifically to accompany drinking, and there are plenty to complement a night of downing Thai beer or lemon grass-spiked gin and tonics. The poached squid salad is emboldened with chili and garlic; the Isaan hot-sour soup is bobbing with pork and various bits of offal in a clay pot; and the Vietnamese fish sauce wings are addictive.
