This is a slice of old Baltimore from the days when women struggling to make ends meet knitted and tatted and smocked their way to a household income. You'll still find those handcrafts alive and well in the store upstairs while the lunchroom downstairs dishes up anachronisms like tomato aspic with its chicken salad. All sorts, from business people and ladies who lunch to street people, congregate here for a bowl of soup and a sandwich served up with a genuine smile. All are welcome. All are tolerant. All leave satisfied with a simple meal.
