Woody Creek Tavern has waitresses that won’t put up with finicky eaters and bartenders who don’t suffer fools gladly. Polaroids of late gonzo journalist (and one-time Aspen local) Hunter Thompson are tacked to the wall. Your kids can learn to play pool while you suck up fresh lime margaritas --- easily the best in Aspen. Despite the tough love attitude, the food is surprisingly good for its genre: juicy burgers, homemade chile verde enchiladas, nachos and Key lime pie that recalls the good old days when local pilots would bring in all the Key limes they could muster to surround their precious cargo on their way home from Florida. If you’ve got an offbeat sense of humor, you’ll appreciate this place.
