Beloved by many Washingtonians, this bustling and colorful German restaurant provides a lively break from the workaday world---especially with its drinking songs and bouncy music when musicians are on hand. Otherwise, people are charmed by the Germanic décor and hearty, stout dishes that almost demand an accompanying stein of beer. We enjoyed the freshly baked rolls and bread the various sausage platters served with sauerkraut. Even though you may leave feeling overfed, don’t skip past the appetizers: We can heartily recommend the robust and peppery goulash. If some dishes, like the tomatoes with mozzarella, seem a bit out of place, just stick to the real reason for coming here, a plate or two of the chefs’ (duties are shared by Henning Lorenzen and Peter Gruenfelder) cooking. Octoberfest, of course, is a festive (and delicious) time of year at Wurzburg Haus.
