THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Zaatar's Oven Restaurant Review:
Named for the North African mix of spices and herbs that are served on flatbread or mixed with yogurt, this former counter space eatery has expanded and now offers dinner as well as beer and wine. The menu is Kosher-dairy, so theres no meat, but plenty of vegetables and fish with gills (no shellfish though). It also limits wine choices to those that are Kosher. Not surprisingly, observant Jews are the predominant diners, but there are enough non-meat eaters to add a bit of counter-culture feel. Spicy fish sausage cooked kebab-style and whole fish drizzled with lemons and capers plus roasted vegetables emerge from the wood burning ovens. Go in the morning and wait in the caféteria line for hot, crisp Montreal-style bagel sticks. Lunch brings roasted vegetables stuffed into oven-baked flatbreads and rolled and folded a la calzone. The management observes the Sabbath.
