Zeb Gastronomia Restaurant Review:

Zeb presents a new concept in gastronomic dining, although its interior seems to conflict with what is normally expected of this type of restaurant. There are no tables, just a bar and bar stools around the kitchen and counter area where the food is on display or cooked in front of guests. The mother and son team’s seasonal menu is surprisingly high-end with many dishes bearing either black or white truffles. On offer is Pappa Pomodoro, the famous bread and tomato soup, as a first course, and a good selection of salads. For a main, the signature Bollito (Zeb’s name derives from “zuppa e bollito”) consists of boiled beef and vegetables. Other typical options are lampredotto, a delicacy not unlike tripe on a sandwich or with sauces, and farm-style roasted chicken. Be sure to try the fig and custard pie if it’s in season. In addition to a good choice of Tuscan wines by the glass, other wines from Italy include Bolgheri and some fine Primitivos from Puglia. Zeb is an enoteca (wine store) and a delicatessen for take-out orders as well; every item is available to be packed in case you fancy a picnic in the hills around Florence.
