This hallowed spot once housed Portland’s legendary restaurant Zefiro. But Susan Sarich and Houston Striggow, recent arrivals from Chicago, exorcised any lingering ghosts when they opened the doors to Zinc Bistrot. If Zefiro was a special occasion spot, Zinc Bistrot is the place for everyday dining. Chef Kevin Thompson whips up no-nonsense, affordable French bistro fare such as coq au vin, Niçoise salad and steak frites. The décor is down to earth, as well, with vivid colors and open spaces; the ceiling mirror serves as a discreet way to check out the other diners. In fine weather, outdoor diners will appreciate the huge awnings and comfortable furniture. This is one spot where Portland’s beautiful people congregate.
