: Just steps from the front desk, [email protected] is the sleek lobby bar and lounge of Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach. It can get busy with all the comings and goings, but the relaxed and jovial atmosphere is a plus. The rectangular space is designed with opaque blue glass, dark wood and flame-filled glass cylinders. Take a seat at the bar, low lounge tables or outdoor patio, if the weather cooperates. Former Mucho Ultima Mexicana chef Chris Garasic oversees the kitchen. Breakfast kicks off with Eggs Manhattan, composed of poached eggs, crab cakes, baby spinach, roasted tomatoes and hollandaise, while lunch highlights include the "Skinny Sashimi" salad of hamachi and ahi with baby greens and miso dressing. At dinnertime, you'll find small plates like duck confit tacos along with several pizza options. The ceviche and slider trios (Angus burger, crab cake, chicken or fried green tomatoes) are also popular choices. Adults can indulge in alcohol-infused ice cream in flavors like Salted Cow (Bourbon, salted caramel, stout). Also on offer are fun "Sub-zero Martinis" served in a glass made of ice, such as the Passionate Kiss made with Finlandia Lime, Pama liqueur and pomegranate.
