The Panama Canal, a 48-mile ship canal that connects the Atlantic Ocean (via the Caribbean Sea) to the Pacific Ocean

The southernmost country in Central America, nestled between Colombia and Costa Rica, the Republic of Panama is known for its tropical climate, vast biodiversity and gorgeous landscape. It is home to the largest rainforest in the Western Hemisphere outside the Amazon Basin and possibly the greatest work of engineering carried out in the twentieth century — the Panama Canal. Panama offers a variety of ways to enjoy its balmy weather and natural surroundings, from relaxing activities including lounging on the beach and playing golf to river rafting, climbing volcanoes, surfing and extreme sports such as paragliding and rappelling. Read through our travel guide to find attractions and events in Panama.

Carnival in Panama

Much like Mardi Gras in New Orleans and the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, Panama's Carnival is a four-day party with parades, floats, masks, costumes and confetti. Celebrations can be found in towns across the country, but the largest are in Panama City and Las Tablas.
