Dolce
Far Niente at the Horned Dorset Primavera

Although Puerto Rico is a commonwealth
of the United States, it feels deliciously foreign,
especially in the less developed, quieter parts of
the country. It is a land of rain forests, tropical
beaches, colorful birds, beautiful orchid gardens,
picturesque Spanish Colonial architecture and the
four-acre Horned Dorset Primavera.
This peaceful resort
is located ten minutes from Rincón on the west
coast of the island. It reflects the country’s
Spanish influences with colonial-style buildings tucked
into steep hills that cascade down to the sea, which
surrounds the resort’s private beach. The original
hotel rooms are complemented by an enclave of newer
deluxe townhouse suites, each opens onto its own plunge
pool. Custom furnishings are made of mahogany and
teak, and views gaze over the Straits of Mona.
Lazy days begin with breakfast served
either in your suite, al fresco on The Verandah or
on the Terrace of the Blue Room. And then, once the
day is through—and you’ve sipped a rum
punch while watching the sunset—you may choose
from the formal dining room or the romantic Blue Room,
which operates under the direction of chef Aaron Wratton.
The interior space is charming, done in colorful Sorrento
tiles; outside, you can dine beneath a canopy of stars
on a menu of Caribbean shellfish and tropical inspired
desserts.
Aside from the pool and small beach,
there are no official activities offered, but outings
can be arranged—snorkeling, diving, trips to
rain forests and tours of coffee plantations and historic
sites. If you are feeling energetic, the beach town
of Rincón is just a short drive away, offering
beaches, shopping, bars, clubs, yummy bakeries, small
local grills, water sports and golf. But more than
likely, you will just want to soak up the sun, swim
in the azure waters and let the golden days blend
into warm velvety nights.
