Brasserie Dupont Posca Rustica

Top 10 Sipping Beers

Brasserie Dupont Posca Rustica is a true sipping beer with an aftertaste of spices that lingers long after you've swallowed

Brasserie Dupont Posca Rustica

Made by the brewery that produces Saison Dupont, this bottle-conditioned Belgian ale attempts to replicate what beer tasted like when Belgium was occupied by the Roman Empire. Beer during that time was not brewed with hops, so a mixture of spices and herbs did the job of bittering it to counteract its sweetness. This gruit (herbed/spiced beer) style uses about a dozen spices, including sweet woodruff (also known as wild baby's breath) and bog myrtle. It pours a hazy, golden, amber color with a thick, long-lasting head and is extremely aromatic with the barnyard, grassy, herbal scent of a saison; but in the taste, the funk is not overpowering, and the 8 percent alcohol strength is well hidden, making this a rather easy drinking ale. It's a true sipping beer with an aftertaste of spices that lingers long after you've swallowed. Note: This beer has been produced since 1983 for l'Archéosite d'Aubechies, a Gallo-Roman site located near the brewery where life from the Iron Age is recreated.

Price: $11 for 750 ml
