The only lodge within Zion National Park, Zion Lodge is a model of environmental sustainability. The original property dates back to the 1920s and is today managed by Xanterra Parks & Resorts, considered in the vanguard when it comes to eco-tourism. Efforts here to save the planet range from composting to serving organic cuisine to offering beer on tap rather than from bottles. One hundred percent of the lodge's electricity use is from wind power, and its hotel-style rooms and historic cabins are complemented with "green suites," featuring bamboo floors, biodegradable soaps, filtered drinking water, organic linens and compact fluorescent lighting, among other earth-friendly amenities. Not only does this lodge aim for minimal environmental impact, it has even undertaken initiatives to restore native grasslands.
