Ai Tre Scalini is a hip wine bar in the heart of Monti, Rome's answer to SoHo. If you don't have a table by 6:30 p.m., you'll be enjoying your wine and food standing on the steps outside, under the ivy covered sign. An extensive wine by the glass or bottle menu is offered, backed by a kitchen that serves dishes to pair with any selection. Specials are always written on a board, though it would surely be in your best interest to start with an antipasto of regional cheeses and charcuterie, and later try the chocolate cake for dessert. In ideal weather the patio makes for a pleasant environment, but if it's too hot stay refreshed in the cool lower-level rooms.
