AsiaSF Restaurant Review

: It takes seriously good food to keep your attention at AsiaSF, what with everything else going on. For one thing, the décor is outrageous, a sort of Asia-meets-the-Jetsons motif. Luminous shoji screens slowly change colors against two walls, while a sparse bamboo forest is set in front of another wall. Did we mention the waitresses? Every last one of them is an Asian male in drag. They're called gender illusionists, and they're a big part of AsiaSF's appeal, especially when they stand on the back bar and lip sync. The best way to enjoy AsiaSF is to bring a gang (bachelorette parties come to mind) and share the small dishes, then wait for the entertainment to begin. The grilled shrimp and herb salad is good, as is the quesadilla filled with smoked duck and Jack cheese served with --- believe it or not --- a sun-dried cherry crème fraîche dipping sauce that really works.
