THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Astral Plane Restaurant Review:
The Age of Aquarius meets eclectic bistro at Astral Plane, one of the forerunners of the early 1970s restaurant renaissance in Philadelphia. This romantic spot boasts deep crimson walls crammed with photos of film stars new and old, billowing tapestries along the ceiling and flickering votives on every table. Executive chef Rodolfo Ramirez mixes Latin, Asian and Mediterranean influences with dishes such as cumin-dusted Hawaiian escolar with coconut rice and black bean salsa and shrimp pot stickers in a lemon grass-basil broth. The veggie lasagna is Italian comfort food at its best. Lots of regulars, a lively bar scene on weekends and top shelf cocktails are a few reasons why the Astral Plane’s run is 30-plus years and counting.
