The rooster on the sign outside at Avril has reason to crow. Awash in shades of chocolate and mocha, the contemporary dining room sets the stage for an evening of creative French and Mediterranean cuisine. You'll likely be greeted by hostess April Lisante, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband, chef Christian Gatti. A tweaking has lightened the menu (and prices) quite a bit. There's always a fish, fresh pasta and steak du jour, along with Gatti's mussels, prepared various ways, including his signature mussels in brandy cream with Dijon and capers. Gatti's pastry background makes for a first-rate bread basket, and, as for desserts, try the financier and lavender honey crème brûlée. Perfect for pre- or post-movie dining---the retro Bala Theater is across the street. BYO makes the check very palatable. High tea is a fun option (and rare in the 'burbs), served Tuesday-Sunday 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
