This neighborhood gastropub offers a short but definitely satisfying out-of-the-ordinary menu. For starters, house-cured vegetables like daikon radishes and watermelon are paired with peanut butter, an unusual mixture of flavors that surprisingly works. Roasted marrow bones are accompanied by grilled bread, while rabbit fills the plump dumplings. Entrées feature an apple-brined pork chop with cheddar grits as well as a grilled whole trout with a poblano tamale and lamb shoulder sauerbraten. Communal tables and two-tops fill the gray and earth-tone room that is urban, despite its rustic look. The long wine list is divided into countries, and the spirits generously and expertly poured. Desserts are limited, yet it is difficult to choose from among the daily bread pudding, black walnut cake or salted chocolate brickle sprinkled over cream cheese ice cream that has been topped with bourbon caramel.
