Bavette's Steakhouse & Bar Restaurant Review

About the restaurant and décor: Chicago restaurant group Hogsalt Hospitality is behind Bavette’s Steakhouse & Bar at Park MGM. Paying homage to Gilded Age opulence, the ambience blends French flair without the formality, and the setting features glowing chandeliers, rich dark woods, red banquettes and murals highlighting subtle images of cattle by artist David Plunkert. In speakeasy fashion, in the back is a hidden parlor bar.

Likes: It’s unlikely you’ll leave hungry, for portions are large, and the sides, including charred Brussels sprouts with Dijon and Parmesan and truffle white cheddar mac & cheese, will easily feed three to four persons.
Dislikes: The soundtrack in the main dining room is solely classic big band jazz and vintage blues, so if you are not a fan, you will need to learn to love it.

Food & Drinks: Although not indicated on the menu, build-your-own seafood towers can be catered to your wishes, with choices of crab, lobster, shrimp and West and East Coast oysters. Other good starters are baked goat cheese with red sauce, herbs and garlic bread; and wedge salad with delectable thick cut griddle maple bacon, egg and Gorgonzola. Steaks are served with béarnaise sauce and steak salt and are USDA Prime in cuts of filet mignon, classic rib-eye and NY strip ranging in size from six to 22 ounces. They can be enhanced with peppercorn crust, maître d’ butter, roasted garlic or Roquefort. Complementing the fare are nearly 200 wines from mostly the U.S., France and Italy; an expansive bourbon/whiskey/Scotch list with 69 choices; and cocktails such as the Hibiki Tokyo with Hibiki Harmony whiskey, kokuto brown sugar, Angostura bitters, orange swath and brandied cherries. Finish with the chocolate cream pie with vanilla whipped cream and chocolate shavings and the French press coffee which comes in your own carafe for easy refills.
