THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Betawi Grill Restaurant Review:
With its dark woods and rattan, Baliesque statuary and swaying potted palms, this place conjures up visions of the exotic, far-off string of islands known as Indonesia. The menu is rife with wondrous, foreign-sounding dishes---minus anything pork, since Indonesians are primarily Muslims. And even those who know little of this Asian cuisine will find plenty that may be familiar, including the popular satés (assorted skewered and grilled meats served with peanut sauce), bakmi goreng ayam (pan-fried egg noodles with chicken), the often-fiery rendang (beef slow-cooked in coconut milk, and here very tame), and the national favorites, soto ayam (chicken soup) and nasi goreng Istimewa (fried rice topped with an egg and served with saté). For a hefty splurge, you can also indulge in the rijsttafel, the multi-coursed Dutch version of an Indonesian meal. Dont pass up the popular dessert known as chendol, a mixture of green-tinted rice flour bits in sweetened coconut milk. Authentic and delicious.
